ICE program can help EMTs locate family contact quickly

Program helps EMTs readily call phone owners' "in case of emergency" contact

Chad Wheet thinks that more Cell Phone Users should become familiar with the "ICE" system.

"The ICE program is a way for emergency response personnel to contact a family member or some one you want contacted incase something happens to you and emergency personnel need to contact somebody," Wheet said.

"ICE is an acronym for 'In Case of Emergency,'" Wheet said.

"So far, several cities and counties within Kentucky and across the nation have adopted the ICE program as a means of assisting EMTs and other emergency personnel," he said, "It is just another tool to aid in the response taken when treating the victim of an emergency, particularly if no identification is found on the person or if serious allergies or other medical information is critical to their treatment."

"The way this works is you put who ever you want as your person to call incase of emergency in your cellular phone as Ice. So for instance if you're a lady and you out by your self and something happens to you your ICE contact could be your husband, daughter, or son, " he said. "The EMT or emergency personnel would find your cell phone look in your contacts see ICE and call that person and let them know of the incident that happened."
