Several years ago, Lindsey Wilson College trustee T.D. Everett approached the college about planting a garden on campus as a way to show the affection that he and his wife, Rowena, have toward the college.

"But we never followed up on that," Everett said.

Friday morning, the Everetts received a more lasting tribute from the college when the T.D. and Rowena Everett Building was dedicated.

"It would be hard-pressed to find anything with a stronger association with this college than Brother T.D. and Rowena," Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A resident of Fairview, KY, T.D. Everett has been associated with the college for more than 70 years. A 1937 graduate of the college, Everett, a retired United Methodist minister, has been a Lindsey Wilson trustee since 1980.

The 5,800-square-foot building was opened in 1947 as LWC's library. It served in that capacity until 1985 when it became the Education Building, home of the college's education division. When the education division moved into the Goodhue Building last fall, the Everett Building became a multi-use classroom building.

The building and several other buildings constructed in the post-WWII era, was originally bult by the late Demaree and George Richards of Garlin, KY.

Having the building re-named in honor of him and his wife of 63 years is "one of the great honors we have experienced in our lives," Everett said.

"This is one of the great days we have experienced in our lives," he said.

While an LWC student, Everett was president of the college's student body in 1936-37. He has personally known all eight Lindsey Wilson presidents, and he served as a United Methodist minister for four decades, including six years as pastor of Columbia United Methodist Church.

"Throughout 70 years I have known this college, and I have loved this college, and have prayed for this college," Everett said. "This college has grown from a very small college- but it has not reached its vision or maturation. This college has a bright future, a great future."And following the ribbon-cutting, Luckey (left) told more than 200 guests at the annual fall luncheon that although "this college is on a dramatic up-tick - we have not arrived yet."

"The pace of change and improvement is dramatic," Luckey said, citing the expansion of the faculty and the aggressive "Changing Lives Campaign" that has already raised more than $37 million. "But great colleges don't rest. In fact, they don't even pause. It is now time to put the accelerator to the floor. Now is the time for us to accelerate the pace of improvement at this college."Click here to see highlights from the day at Lindsey Wilson College online.
