Your mountain is waiting, LWC freshmen told

In addition to President Luckey, LWC opening convocation includes speakers VP bettie C. Starr, SG president Drew Sadler, and Director of Freshman Experience Benson Sexton

By Duane Bonifer, Director of Public Affairs, LWC

In the 1967 film The Graduate, protagonist Benjamin Braddock is given one word of advice upon graduating from college.

On Wednesday morning, more than 400 Lindsey Wilson College freshmen received four words of advice on how to have a successful college career.

"You have been blessed with an incredible opportunity," Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. told the freshmen, upperclassmen, faculty and staff who gathered in Biggers Sports Center for Opening Convocation. "Four years from now, when you walk across that stage, I want you to know you have done your best."

Luckey told the freshmen that four words held the key to walking across the commencement stage four years later: "dream," "passion" and "no regrets.""We have many dreams and high expectations for each of you, but what are your dreams for yourself?" Luckey said. "Take time to dream while you are here."

And if they approached their dreams with passion, Luckey told the freshmen they would have no regrets.

"You can have wonderful dreams, but you must commit, you must work, you must be passionate about following them," he said.

In addition to Luckey, the freshmen also heard from Vice President for Academic Affairs Bettie C. Starr, Student Government President Drew Sadler and Director of Freshman Experience Benson Sexton. They also were officially installed as members of the LWC community by reciting a pledge that included supporting the Lindsey Wilson mission.

Sexton told the freshmen that the theme of this school year is "Your Mountain is Waiting."

"You have begun a journey that is exciting, challenging, tiring, but most of all rewarding," Sexton said. "Just like climbing a mountain, college requires time, effort, physical and mental fitness, and tools for success."
