President Luckey to Lead National UMC Education group

By Duane Bonifer, Public Affairs director, Lindsey Wilson College
Reprinted from lindsey.edu

Lindsey Wilson College President William T. Luckey Jr. has been elected president of the National Association of Schools and Colleges of The United Methodist Church.

Luckey, who has been the eighth president of Lindsey Wilson since 1998, will serve as president of the 122-member NASCUMC during the 2007-08 school year.

"It's quite an honor to be chosen by my peers to serve as NASCUMC president because it reflects the high regard other United Methodist institutions' leaders have for Lindsey Wilson College," said Luckey, 47, who was NASCUMC second vice president during the 2006-07 school year. "The Methodist Church has been a big part of my life personally and professionally, and I look forward to advancing NASCUMC's goals during my tenure as its president."

NASCUMC includes 122 institutions listed by The United Methodist Church's University Senate as United Methodist-related schools, colleges, universities, medical college and theological schools.

The organization meets semiannually for professional development; study of institutional issues; and analysis of proposed legislation and guidelines that affect student aid, federal programs, institutional governance and reporting requirements. NASCUMC also works with other United Methodist agencies, along with professional societies and organizations.

Lindsey Wilson has been among the fastest-growing United Methodist-related colleges over the last 25 years, and the college has grown a great deal under Luckey's leadership. During Luckey's administration: Lindsey Wilson's full-time faculty has increased by more than 60 percent; enrollment has reached an all-time high; the campus has expanded by more than 40 percent, which has included more than a dozen new buildings; and the college launched the "Changing Lives Campaign," which was recently extended from $33 million to $53 million.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Luckey came to Lindsey Wilson in 1983 as an admissions counselor. After holding the positions of vice president for development, vice president for enrollment management, and vice president for administration and finance, Luckey became Lindsey Wilson's eighth president on July 1, 1998.

Luckey holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Wabash (Ind.) College, where he was an All-American baseball player; a master's degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management; and a doctorate in higher education administration from Vanderbilt's Peabody College.

Luckey has been published and lectured widely on the subject of the scholarship of teaching.
