LWC Fall Cultural Affairs Series starts Sept. 11, 2007 Chair Phil Hanna says series planned with eye on the public's interests. Full 2007 Fall calendar below; dates also in CM Events By Emily Harlan, LWC staff writer Lindsey Wilson College's 2007 fall Cultural Affairs Series offers a diversity of topics and performers. From well-known speakers to musicians to authors, the 2007 fall series offers a multitude of events. "This fall's schedule is so full because the cultural affairs committee has received donations from friends of the college who like to support more events of this style," Hanna said. "I'm using more money than every before, and that's why there are so many events scheduled." Hanna said cultural affairs events are planned with an eye on the public's interests. "Each year the cultural affairs committee tries to provide people with the unique opportunity to experience a variety of speakers and performers," Hanna said. "Specifically, we schedule events that may not be customarily held in Southcentral Kentucky." And the price to attend the events is hard to beat. All of the events are free and open to the public as part of the college's mission to provide cultural events to the region. Hanna, who has worked on the series for about 10 years, said ideas for speakers and performers originate from many sources: articles in professional journals; student suggestions; and personal connections. "The committee often takes input and suggestions from others," Hanna said. "Most of the events for the fall came from other people's suggestions, and a few are my ideas. Sometimes I'll run across articles people wrote and get the idea to invite them to participate in the series. Students will offer names of performers. I've met several authors at book fairs and will contact them about speaking on campus."
