CJE is working for state funding of new Creekbend Rd. Bridge

Adair County CJE Ann Melton is requesting state funds from the Fletcher Administration to build a bridge on Creekbend Road off KY 55 South.

Along with that project, Judge Melton said that she is asking for funds to shore up Melson Ridge Road, near Inroad, where the creek is undercutting the roadbed.

"Both these projects are badly needed," she said. "The bridge is will make a big difference in public safety and convenience."

The Melson RIdge Road project is essential for public safety, she said. "Since I took office," she said, "we've made improving county roads the top priority. There is a lot of work to do," she said. "We wanted it all done before school started, but that was impossible, considering the backlog of needs built up over the years."

Four public safety concerns will be addressed in the coming weeks. She has received word from Tim Hazlett, Commissioner of Public Safety in the Kentucky Department of Highways, that the department will erect guard rails in four locations in Adair County:
  1. Scott Hill Road in District 1
  2. Little Cake Road in District 1
  3. Ray Williams Road in District 6
  4. Tucker-Warren Road in District 6
This guardrail work will be done by the state, rather than Adair County Road crews, she said. "It was great that this work is finally being done," she said. "It will make these roads much safer for all travel, and especially for school busses."

Judge Melton said that she is still awaiting word on her requests to Governor Fletcher for money to shore up Melson Ridge Road near Inroad, where the creek is undercutting the roadbed and for an ambitious project to bridge Russell Creek south of Columbia to connect Creekbend Road and Conover Lane.

Judge Melton whose outspoken, unequivocal endorsement of Governor Fletcher said that she thinks she thinks the Governor's help with South Central Kentucky projects will be appreciated at the polls. "It may look like he is favoring us. But when you look at all the neglect Adair County has had between Louie Nunn and Ernie Fletcher," she said, "it's just catch-up." She and other Republicans always bring up the John Y. Brown administration. "All we got his term was two-tenths of a mile of road built. From Russell Murphy's (on East 80) to Westlake."

She said that she is heartened by Adair County's financial support of the Governor's campaign. "He's getting campaign donations from members of both parties," she said. "I think that the vast majority of Adair Countians, even those who can't afford to give money to Governor Fletcher, will vote for him this fall."

"If he wins," she said, adding that she believes he will, "Adair County will have the best four years it has ever seen."
