Adair County 4-H receives $37,500 after school grant JC Penney grant will be used to set up programs at John Adair, Intermediate, ACES, and Adair County Middle Schools By Tony Rose, Adair County Youth Extension Agent The Adair County 4-H Council and the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service has received a $37,500 grant to do after school programs. The grant was received from the National 4-H Council JC Penney After School Fund. The JC Penney After school program is eager to expand on what it has helped to create by providing support for young people to attend after-school programs. These funds will be used to start up new after school program at the local schools. As part of the grant program matching funds are also being provided by the Kentucky Adair County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy Board, the Adair County 4-H Council, and the University of Kentucky. We will also be collaborating with the Adair County School system and Family Resource Youth Services Centers. A committee is in the planning process and we plan to be able to start offering after school programs later in September. We will be offering some type of after school programs at John Adair Intermediate, Adair County Elementary, and Adair County Middle schools. Program will have acronym SAFARI The grant funds are used to create new after school opportunities for the youth of Adair County. The after school program will the called S.A.F.A.R.I. (Staying After-School for Academics, Recreation and Imagination) The Adair County 4-H program would like to thank everyone who is collaborating on this continuing after school program that will provide many benefits to the youth of Adair County. We are also looking for anyone who is interested in volunteering to work with our new after school program.
