Special invitation to first fall 2007 chapel service at Ransdell CU President Michael V. Carter will address first chapel service this fall in Ransdell The first chapel/convocation in the new Ransdell Chapel will feature Dr. Michael V. Carter, president, speaking at 10amET/9amCT Wednesday, August 29, 2007. The public is invited to attend. Campbellsville University's Ransdell Chapel was dedicated April 18, 2007, and the Wednesday chapel will be the first chapel/convocation for the opening of this school year. Among the events during the chapel/convocation will be the welcoming of new faculty and students and the selection of the award for the Non-Tenured Faculty member. Dr. Carter is in his ninth year as president of Campbellsville University. He has led the university to her highest enrollment, at 2,310 for fall 2006, and he expects this year's enrollment to be a record-setting one as well. Under Dr. Carter's leadership, Campbellsville University has been named 22nd in U.S.News & World Report's "Best Baccalaureate Colleges in the South" in the America's Best Colleges 2008 edition. CU has been named to the America's Best Colleges for 15 consecutive years. Dr. Carter is a graduate of Marshall University in 1976 where he received a bachelor of arts. He received his master of arts from Marshall in 1979. He did additional graduate study at Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Mass. He received his Ph.D. in 1984 from Ohio State University. Dr. Carter served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, from 1985 to 1999. He was also professor of sociology at CN. He is the author of several book chapters and journal articles ranging from Religion & Life in Appalachia, Rural Youth Drug Abuse and Community Change. Dr. is a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. Dr. Carter is married to Debra Ann Carter, who is assistant professor of social work at CU. They have three children, Eric, Alicia and Wesley.
