Gov. Fletcher breaks ground on E-town Ring Road extension

Will eventually extended from N. Mulberry to Western KY Parkway around ElizabethtownInformation from Commonwealth News Center

Governor Ernie Fletcher joined officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local government in breaking ground for a $7 million extension of Ring Road, yesterday, Friday, August 24, 2007.

The road, when built, will give new, faster, options for Adair County travellers to Louisville who need to drop off main Lincoln Parkway & I-65 route to Louisville for stops on north side of Elizabethtown, with easier access back to the Lincoln Parkway & I-65 main route between Columbia and Louisville.

This section of the project will extend Ring Road by 1.46 miles from U.S. 62, on the west side of Elizabethtown, to Gaither Station Road (CR 1133). KYTC officials expect another section, which will further extend the roadway to the Wendell H. Ford Western Kentucky Parkway, to be awarded early next year.

The Ring Road extension project exemplifies my administrations efforts to open doors to new opportunities for Kentuckians, Governor Fletcher said during a ceremony in Elizabethtown. With a growing economy and a bustling Army post nearby, transportation infrastructure is important to the prosperity of this community. Moving forward with this project will ease congestion in the area and set the stage for linkage to the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Construction on the project is expected to begin within weeks.
