Thank You: Lindsey Wilson College

By Patty Jones, Principal, Colonel William Casey Elementary School

As principal of a local elementary school, I want to add my thanks to the students, faculty and staff at Lindsey Wilson College. During the past decade our partnership with the college has grown stronger on a yearly basis.

Col. Wm. Casey and the education department at LWC have had a strong partnership for many years. Dr. Larry Ennis, and Asst. Principal, Laura Murrell work together as a team to ensure the success of this program. Each semester students in the department are assigned to a primary teacher at our school. Those students work collaboratively with their assigned teacher to gain knowledge for themselves and provide knowledge to both our staff and students. Most then go on to student teach at our school. I might add that many of those students are now fully certified teachers on staff at Casey.

In addition Camp Casey, our afterschool program, has benefited tremendously from the assistance of the recreation department at LWC and the Bonner Leadership program at the school. Students from both areas, and others, volunteer their time to assist, lead, and plan activities for our students. As I write this letter we are preparing for a parent involvement kick-off event where the Bonner Leaders will be planning and providing children's activities so that parents may attend without worrying about quality childcare.

I have never attended a Fall Festival, Bookfair, or Read Across America event at our school that a Lindsey Wilson College student was not involved. On Malvina Farkle Day we have an abundance of students ready to do whatever we need. Their activities have ranged from pulling weeds to tutoring students on that day. Many years students from LWC have planned and implemented our school's Field Day in the spring. We have so many students involved in our school we have a separate sign-in sheet for them and know most of them on a first name basis.

On a personal note, my daughter has participated in the Youth Soccer League for the last 6 years. Not only has she gained the knowledge and skills of soccer, but she has benefited from the wide and varied international backgrounds of the LWC soccer players who coached her.

I think Columbia is extremely fortunate to have Lindsey Wilson College here and I hope that as a community we can support them as much as they have supported us!
