Adair County has some really big bragging rights in the fine arts.

Columbia Artist Henrietta Scott is the winner of two first place awards at the 2007 Kentucky State Fair.

She placed first in the Kentucky Water Colors Society Contest, for her watercolor "Cedar Berries in First Snow," painted from a scene on her husband's, Jeff Scott's home, the Tinker Scott place in South Adair County.

The other first place award was for a watercolor of The Sparks Place, where Lindsey Wilson archivist Elveeta Sparks grew up, on Harrods Fork Creek, also in South Adair County.

"The Sparks Place" water color won the Whip Mix Purchase Award. The painting in this category is purchased for $500 by the Whip Mix Company.

The purchase amount is the highest paid any winners in Fine Arts at the Kentucky State Fair. Whip Mix is a Louisville manufacturer supply products for the dental profession. Henrietta Scott said that she hd heard of the Steinbeck family, owner of the Whip Mix Corporation, through Doug Antle, an Adair Countian who is now a pharmacist in Louisville, KY.

Scott did not know she had won the prizes until she was called by Adair native and Art Professor at Campbellsville University Linda Cundiff to congratulate her.

She and husband Jeff Scott operate Highland Raku Studio, 7917 Burkesville Road, Columbia, KY at Sparksville.
