Billy Conn birthday photo identification today Link to first story with the Photo The identification for the ca 1950 birthday photo submitted by Billy Conn is mostly complete, thanks to Julia Thompson of Columbia. It was her birthday party. It was held at her family's home, about two blocks from the Columbia Public Square, a little less than from her father's barber shop on the North Walk off the Square. The shop was a popular spot in Columbia then with Ellis Pickett and Sylvester Cole the owners. The big lawn where the party was held was then the home of Ellis and Mary Welch Miller Pickett and Julia and her brother, Billy Burns Pickett. The house is still there at the southeast corner of Guardian and Monroe Streets. It has been recently remodelled by Sandy and Brad Conover. In those days, clockwise at the intersection, there was the home Dr. James C. Salato, the residence of Lewis and Mary Wood Coffey, and, at about that time Dr. George Otis Nell built his medical clinic on the northeast corner. This story was posted on 2007-08-16 05:22:51
