Jeffery Keltner shares memories of Sparks Mill, Gradyville, KY

Dear Brother Bill (via ColumbiaMagazine.com):

What a wonderful sight!! and a great task you have begun!

This floods my mind with all the memories I have of growing up around the old Sparks Mill.

My Dad (James Howard Keltner) used to drop me off there with my Grandpa (Rollin Keltner.) I would spend the entire day and sometimes for several days, since the checker games would get heated up during the week.

As far as artifacts from the mill. I have the checker board and vintage checkers that were used for years in that mill on the barrel inside or out in front. I used to drink ice-cold pop, chase chickens and listen to all the old men telling stories.

I still remember and can tell all those stories to this day. I learned the difference between right and wrong, how a person was suppose to lead his life.

Godbless. And next time I'm in Gradyville we must get together.

Jeffery Keltner
