German firm bringing 150 jobs to Russell County Governor Fletcher's Chief of Staff Stan Cave, Economic Development officials, Judge Garner, Mayors DeHart and Bates, among dignitaries at groundbreaking for $24 million plant onThursday, August 9, 2007. Plant will offer new employment opportunities for South Central Kentuckians Governor Ernie Fletcher's chief of staff, Stan Cave, joined with officials of the Cabinet for Economic Development, the community of Russell County and BRUSS North America to break ground for a $24 million expansion of the company's industrial facility in Russell County. The event took place yesterday, Thursday, August 9, 2007. BRUSS, a German company that specializes in sealing systems for transmissions and engines, currently employs 165 and is expected to grow by an additional 150 employees due to the expansion. "Business expansion is key to Kentucky's economic growth," Cave said. "We're always excited when one of our corporate citizens decides to expand and remain in Kentucky. We are proud to partner with BRUSS North America as it achieves its goals and continues to grow right here in Russell Springs." The expansion will add 71,400 square feet of manufacturing space and 54,000 square feet of warehousing space to the plant in the Russell County Business Park. The plant currently encompasses 57,000 square feet. Completion of the project is scheduled for fall 2008. "Due to the hard work of our employees, the phenomenal support from the local community and state officials and the confidence of our customers, it is an honor for me as president of BRUSS North America to announce the expansion of our North American operations in Russell Springs,"Robert M. Rapone, president and chief executive officer, BRUSS North America, said. "It is also an honor for our BRUSS family to have been associated with such a fine group of people, making this operations expansion a reality." BRUSS operates seven production plants around the globe and generates approximately $200 million in annual sales. The Russell Springs plant, which opened in September 2001, is the company's only U.S. production operation and is also its North American corporate headquarters. The expansion will enable the company to manufacture automotive valve covers, seals and gaskets. "The city of Russell Springs is extremely pleased and thrilled that BRUSS North America has chosen our community for its expansion," Russell Springs Mayor Hollis DeHart said. "Having already become a member and good neighbor of this community, BRUSS now chooses to invest even more here, which will have a positive and solid economic impact in our area." "The $24 million investment by BRUSS is another example of how existing businesses are as vital to our economy here in Jamestown and Russell County as bringing in new plants," Jamestown Mayor R. Brooks Bates said. "I look forward to working with the company as it grows in the future." "I am pleased that one of our corporate citizens, BRUSS North America, is making a significant investment in our community, committing 150 new jobs," Russell County Judge-Executive Mickey Garner said. "I am pleased that the Fiscal Court and I have been able to assist in this project for our community. We hope to continue to assist them any way in the future." The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) has approved BRUSS North America for a funding package worth $2.5 million to aid expansion. "With the creation of an additional 150 jobs and the total investment of over $24 million in the next five years, we can only hope that our company can continue to have a further positive impact on the local economy," Rapone said. "It is an exciting time for all of us, and I have no doubt that we will succeed together as we continue to compete in the global community of automotive suppliers."
