A copyright proves old postcard 1920 or older

Vonnie Kolbenschlag gives more on the beautiful old 1872 Columbia United Methodist Church on Burkesville Street and what happened to the windows

To: Ed, ColumbiaMagazine.com,

I have a booklet called Postcard History Series by Carl Howell and Dixie Hibbs. It covers Adair, Barren, Green, Hart, and Taylor counties.

For that photo (Burkesville Street, Columbia, Kentucky) it says c. 1920. Published by Auburn Post Card Mfg. Co. in Auburn, Indiana. Carl Howell collected early post cards.

Only four of those beautiful glass windows from the 1872 Methodist Church on the same site are saved in the church. No one I've talked to seems to know or care, for that matter, what happened to the remainder of the windows. The ones there are dedicated to certain people.

Although I am "from off" I''m sorry the windows are lost.

From Vonnie Kolbenschlag
Thanks, Vonnie, for the fascinating information and for all you do to preserve and share the history of Columbia and Adair County, especially your authorship of the Walking Tour of Columbia, the information posted on the wonderful Wayside Markers which now dot Adair County, the wonderful museum you created at the Trabue House, and, of course, the very special "The Other Dan," the concise biography of a Columbia Founding Father, Daniel Trabue, to name just a few. -Ed Waggener
