Heat advisory today: Heat index 105-110

The dangerously hot weather is big news today.

Being a good Adair County Neighbor is more important today than when this Heat advisory and request to Look in on an Elderly Neighbor was issued by Judge Melton and EMD Greg Thomas two days ago.

Today is the last regular day for the City Pool to be open, but Mayor Pat Bell has ordered the pool season be extended to include FREE swimming Thursday, August 9, 2007, and Friday, August 10, 2007, according to City Pool Manager Greg Thomas. Cooling photo.

Environmental factors are affecting how we cope with heat. If anyone can get a temperature differential between one of the huge blacktop parking lots and a cool, country lane through a tree tunnel, let us know about it. Forty (40) degrees Fahrenheit? Just a guess. But it points out problems caused by blacktop. Walking paths in the community are much cooler, and easier on the feet if they are of mulch or gravel, cooler if concrete rather than asphalt.
