After losing a heartbreaker to Illinois on Saturday 2-0, our Kentucky girls bounced back and defeated Nebraska 11-0 on Sunday. Several of the girls were alive at the plate led by Kaylin Hughes and Mackenzie Martin who both tripled in the game. Hughes had 2 rbis in the game. Meredith Corbin and Chelsea Sampson combined for the shut-out.

Kentucky 7, Iowa 2
The Flame was burning on Monday when a revived Kentucky team survived the heat and humidity to hand the Iowa team a loss.

Neither team scored in the first inning. The Flame went down in order in the top of the inning. Iowa singled with one out and pitcher Chelsea Sampson struck out the next batter. The next batter hit a drive to centerfield that looked like trouble, but Kaylin Hughes made the catch of the tournament with a diving, rolling catch that ended the inning and shifted momentum to the Kentucky team.

In the second inning Brooke Boils led off for Kentucky with a double, Hughes followed with a single. Boils later scored on an Iowa throwing error with Breonia Thurman batting. Thurman scored another run on an error. Iowa got another single but sent only four batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Kentucky did not score in the third. Iowa scored one run when Sampson hit the lead off batter and that was followed by a double and single . It was the only earned run Corbin and Sampson have allowed in three games. Neither team scored in an uneventful fourth inning. Nothing happened in the fifth as well.

Going into the sixth inning leading 2 to 1 Kentucky lit the Flame. Sampson walked to open the inning, Chelsea Brown struck out, Kayla Walls reached on a fielding error and Sampson scored. Meredith Corbin walked, Walls scores on an error on a ball hit by MacKenzie Martin, Boils singled and moved Martin to third and went to second on a pitch. Hughes followed with a two run double down the leftfield line. Hughes later scored as Iowa overthrew first on a Thurman groundball. Kentucky plated five runs in the sixth.

Iowa scored one run on two singles and an error in the bottom of the inning. Nothing happened in the seventh as Corbin set the final three Iowa batters down in order.

Brooke Boils and Kaylin Hughes led the Kentucky hitting with a single and double by each. Hughes had two runs batted in. Of the six Kentucky hits Boils and Hughes had four.

Kentuckys next game is against Ohio scheduled for 2:30pm EDT today, but stormy weather may delay or postpone it.
