Officials urge caution in extreme heat

Look in on elderly neighbors, CJE asks
Temperatures will range from 95 to 100 today, Monday, August 6, through Thursday, August 9, 2007. A heat advisory is in effect for counties west of Adair County, from noon today until 5pm CT. Adair County Judge Ann Melton and EMD Greg Thomas would like to caution the citizens of Adair County to please exercise caution when working outdoors, and to drink plenty of liquids if they must be or work outdoors during the extreme heat.

"If you have a elderly neighbor or friend without air conditioning, please check in on them," Judge Melton said.

EMD Greg Thomas said that some tips for for keeping a house cooler is to limit cooking, keeping the curtains pulled to keep out the direct sunlight, and use fans to help circulate the flow of air.

Residents are urged to curtail outdoor work and activity. If you must work outside, remember to drink plenty of liquids.

Scenic Adair County: Farm on Damron Creek near Eunice

2007-08-05 - Damron Creek Road, District 1, Adair County - Photo By Ed Waggener.
The cattle on the Floyd Roy farm knew to get in the shade as temperatures got into the 90s today. This beautiful scene is from Damron Creek Road looking toward Floyd Roy Road in District One near Eunice, KY. Damron Creek Road runs to Russell County and comes out on US 127. There's one creek to ford, over in Russell County. A new bridge over Damron Creek makes passage on the Adair County side very easy. The road has some of the prettiest scenes in either Adair or Russell Counties.
