Saturday A.M. single car crash closes Hurt Street, briefly

With one photo
By Ed Waggener

A single vehicle crash on Hurt Street closed the heavily used connector for over one-half hour this morning at around 9:20am CT.

Amy Wilson, 18, Mitchell Street, Columbia, KY, was traveling east on Hurt Street in a 1998 Honda, was the only occupant of the vehicle. She was not belted, and refused medical treatment. Adair County EMS was on the scene.

Columbia Police Officer Kevin Atwood, who investigated the accident, said that Wilson failed to negotiate the slight curve at the crest of the hill at Willis Street, left the roadway, and hit the ditchline.

Witnesses to the incident said that the car was briefly airborne, but Atwood thought that, from an inspection of glass on the roadway, skid marks, and damage to the car that only the rear-end may have left the ground.

The car was towed to Lynn's Service Center, Columbia, KY, opening the road again to through traffic before 10:00am CT.
