Advance notice: There may be another Oldies

Show adds another oft repeated discovery: "I didn't know there was this much talent in Adair County," or variations thereof, to the show's most frequently heard critique, "I never laughed so much in my life."
Some, including Tourism Director Sue Stivers, want the show to be a regular event

By Ed Waggener

We'll bring you up to date as soon as a decision is made. Yesterday, speaking from the supper table at Sulphur Well, KY, Dream Depot Manager Elaine Bennett announced that the last presentation of "Oldies But Goodies," the fourth on July 28, 2007, might be the last.

"We have commitments to do other shows," Bennett said. "But Peggy Lawson called me and said that she's got a list of 26 people who want reservations for the next "Oldies," so we're reconsidering."

Some in the community, including Tourism Executive Director Sue Stivers (who has visions of tour busses booking Columbia, KY, as a destination site), are encouraging the talented players to make "Oldies But Goodies" a regular attraction for the community. "After all," Stivers says, "entertainment is a cornerstone of the tourism industry."

"We could help direct tourists to the theatre if we knew that it would be, say, every first three Saturday nights--or whatever," she said.

Bennett say a frequently heard comment around town about the show is, "I never knew we had such talent in Adair County." She says that's been amazing discovery for her as well. "And there are plenty more than we've been able to showcase here, as well."

The last performance, which was the fourth sell-out in a row, had Stivers and both CJE Ann Melton and Mayor Pat Bell in the audience.

"The show is absolutely wonderful," Stivers said, repeating what CM Drama Critic Geniece Marcum said in her review of the first show, "I never laughed so much in my life!"

ColumbiaMagazine.com will announce the next performance of "Oldies But Goodies," as soon as the information is available.
