KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, issues July activity report

Five fatalities in July, but total for year in Post 15 area is 20, down from 29 in same period a year ago

There were five fatalities in the Kentucky State Police Post 15 area during July 2007. This brings our yearly fatality count to 20 compared with 29 through this same period in 2006.

The five fatalities in July were:


  • Steve K. Gibbons, Edmonton, Kentucky, was killed in Metcalfe County on July 6, 2007
  • Teresa M. Gibbons, Edmonton, Kentucky was killed in Metcalfe County on July 6, 2007
  • Christopher D. Capps, Burkesville, Kentucky was killed in Cumberland Co. on July 10, 2007

  • Leonard T. Riley III, Finley, Kentucky was killed in Marion County on July 16, 2007
  • Harold E. Pittman, Jr., Campbellsville, Kentucky was killed in Marion Co. on July 28, 2007.
State wide fatality count stands at 486 compared with 504 through this same period in 2006.

During the month of July 2007, there were 1,458 citations written, 241 courtesy notices written, 2,063 vehicles inspected, 1,082 complaints answered, 74 motorists assisted, 83 criminal cases opened and 287 criminal arrests made.

During the month of July 2007, there were 41 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.
