Springhill Plantation marks long history with Civil War drama Dinner drama, "Restless Spirits" is based on "darkest day in Bloomfield's history," about Confederate activity in the town. Four dates, one in July, three in August, coming up. From Commonwealth News Center, ky.gov #Springhill Winery and Plantation Bed & Breakfast, just south of the Bluegrass Parkway on KY 55, about 60 miles north of Columbia, KY, is celebrating the 150th birthday of its historic manor house, widely known for its Federal and Victorian architecture, with a dinner-drama called "Restless Spirits -- The Murder Mystery of 1864." The house (circa 1857) is located on a pre-civil war plantation near Bardstown that was also the site of a Confederate guerrilla skirmish that became know as the "darkest day in Bloomfield's history." For the second season, the story is being retold as a musical drama. Witness the shots of a Confederate skirmish at Springhill that took the life of citizen J.R. Jones, a Union sympathizer. Was it John Hunt Morgan's new recruits encamped near Bardstown or Colonel Jesse's rowdy troops that were rustling horses in the area? There were reprisals to be paid -- with mystery, intrigue, and a love story that pulls at the heart strings. On the old plantation estate once named Anoatop, diners can relax in the shade of the stately brick manor and fill their dinner plates with southern meats, garden vegetables, and desserts in the Victorian courtyard, then sip a cool glass of Kentucky-made wine. The drama unfolds as a story seldom told of spurned love, mystery, and murder, that happened here. "This performance is based on a historical event that occurred at this site in 1864," said Springhill operator Eddie O'Daniel. "We remember and give tribute to the men and women who suffered and sacrificed their lives for the freedom and privileges we enjoy." Written and directed by Toni Wiley, the performance is sponsored by Springhill Winery and Plantation Bed & Breakfast and performed by the Bardstown Theater Group. Dinner is served at 6:30pmET, and the performance starts at 7:00pmET. The schedule includes performances on July 21, August 4, 11 and 25 and September 8, 2007. Advance tickets are available at $39.95 per person, which includes dinner, wine, and performance. In case of bad weather, rain checks are offered for future performances. Overnight reservations at the Springhill Plantation Bed & Breakfast can be made online at www.springhillwinery.com or by calling 502-252-9463.Springhill Vineyards, Inc., founded in 1990, became a bonded winery in 1992 and produces over 4,000 gallons of wine per year.
