Rogers announces $3 million additional funds for PRIDE

Program which has contributed so much to Adair County Roadside Cleanup infused with new funds

U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) announced yesterday that $3 million in PRIDE funds has been slated for PRIDE in the Congress. The House Appropriations Committee recently approved $2 million in Army Corps of Engineers' funding to advance PRIDE's environmental infrastructure improvement program, and an additional $1 million was approved to support PRIDE's volunteer, education and clean-up efforts.

"With this funding, our ongoing campaign to eliminate straight pipes and failing septic systems and provide more of our citizens with safe, sanitary wastewater treatment services can continue," Rogers said.

"And we're taking another step in our mission to restore our waterways to their pristine beauty and engage the community to continue removing trash dumps in the mountains and litter on the roadways," he added.

PRIDE, which promotes Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment in 38 counties, was launched in 1997 by Rogers and the late General James Bickford, former Secretary of the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet. Their vision was to restore the natural beauty of their native region by encouraging citizens to take responsibility for protecting their environment.

Through these and other grant programs, PRIDE has invested $185 million to clean up the environment.Rogers works to obtain federal funding for projects across Southern and Eastern Kentucky in his role as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
