Travel: Liars contest September 8, 2007 By Giil Lawson, Commonwealth News CenterGreenbo Lake State Resort Park is looking for a few good storytellers. You can even be a liar. The First Greenbo Lake Liars Contest will be September 8 at the park near Greenup. If you can tell a pretty good yarn in five minutes in front of an audience, you could be a winner. Registration for participants is $10 through Sept. 5 and $15 after that date. Forms can be obtained at the park and the Greenup County Extension Office at 226 West Main Street in Greenup. There will be a category for adults and another for children (6th through 12th grades). The prizes for adults will be $250 for first; $150 for second and $75 for third. For children, the winner will receive $50; second place is $25 and third is $15. The sponsors of the contest are Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, the Eastern Kentucky Storytelling Association and the Greenup County Growing With the Arts Advisory Council. The contest will start at 1pmET/NoonCT. at the park amphitheater. Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. A panel of judges will evaluate each contestant based on technique, story development, originality and effectiveness. Detailed rules will be provided to contestants on the day of the event.
