Billy Burdette, 88, Adair native, dies in Jamestown

Mr. Burdette was a member of a old line Adair County family and former Mayor of the City of Jamestown, KY. He had been the owner of a major Russell County automobile dealership and had risen to the presidency of the Bank of Jamestown. He was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church, a WWII veteran, and a Mason.

William J. "Billy" Burdette, 134 Adams St, Jamestown, KY, prominent retired Jamestown banker, businessman, and Russell County civic leader died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 12:20pm CT.

The funeral service will be at Jamestown First Baptist Church, on Friday, July 13, 2007, at 11:00am CT, with Bro. Thurman Harris and Dr. Phil Ellis officiating.



Mr. Burdette was born February 3, 1919, in Columbia, Adair County, Kentucky, the son of the late Sam and Ruth Paull Burdette.

He was the widower of Barbara Ann (Reese) Burdette.

He is survived also by the following:
  • A son: John R. Burdette, Jamestown, KY, and John's fiance', Michelle McCoy, Lexington, KY.

  • A sister: Martha Rou, Columbia, KY
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Monroe Burdette, of Columbia, KY.

Mr. Burdette served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He had been owner of Burdette Motor Company in Jamestown. He had served as Mayor of Jamestown, KY, and was a member of Greensburg Masonic Lodge No. 54.

Visitation will be at Jamestown First Baptist Church, West Cumberland Avenue in Jamestown, after 5:00pm today, Thursday, July 12, 2007.

Burial will be in Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, KY.
