Gradyville roadside markers installation Thursday at 8:30am CT Roadside markers will be installed at Gradyville in the morning, Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 8:30am. The signs will be located by the Gradyville voting house on the grounds of Daryl & Frances Salyers' D&F Grocery and Deli, Edmonton Road (KY 80), Gradyville, KY. One of the signs commemorates the tragic Gradyville Flood of June 7, 1907; the other marks the hometown and birthplace of Ed Diddle, the fabulous--and very colorful--Western Kentucky University basketball coach. Both of the highway markers were suggested and researched by Vonnie Kolbenschlag. She interviewed many people in the Gradyville area before and wrote the inscriptions for the markers. Both the signs have photographs by her husband, George Kolbenschlag. Funds for the roadside markers game from SEKTDA, the South and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association, through the efforts of Sue Stivers, is vice chair of the SEKTDA Board Member. Mrs. Kolbenschlag serves on the SEKTDA 2007 Board of Advisors. Judge Ann Melton is having the Adair County Road Department to install the markers. Gradyville is the capital of the Gradyville-Nell precinct and one of three major communities in Adair County District Four, besides Flatwoods and Breeding. While the Judge does not expect to make the event, she will be represented by Administrative Assistant Lisa Lee. There will be no ceremony, but onlookers are invited to watch.
