Feedback: Fond memories of Rev. Hodges To the editor, CM Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the wonderful work that you do. You are providing a wonderful service to those of us that no longer live in Columbia. I found article, Warren Oates/Hodges connection, to be very interesting. As a child growing up in the heart of the Sparksville community, I was not old enough to remember the Hodges family from personal experience. However, I can attest to how much everyone still loved Reverend Hodges. I always heard about this man that I never knew, but he still seemed to be such a part of the community. I found the Warren Oates connection interesting. I was a little surprised to see that one very well known movie was not mentioned. If you recall, Mr. Oates was Deputy Sam Wood in the Sidney Poitier classic, In The Heat of The Night. Anyway, just thought I would mention it. Keep up the good work! I especially enjoy old articles and news from Sparksville, (naturally). Donita Loy Hortillosa "The day the preacher's boy saved the life of Warren Oates". Jerry Marshall letter about Rev. Hodges' son, Hartzell. Note: Thanks so much for your letter; hope this time finds you and Dr. Hortillosa doing well. It is always good to hear from Adair Countians who keep in touch with home. We do need more information on the Sparksville community, especially since the passing of a wonderful resource for the news of the area passed away. Carlis B. Wilson is really missed. We're hoping someone takes up dedication to the cause of South Adair County history. In the meantime, entering "Sparksville" or "Carlis B. Wilson," in the searchbox will find more news from that area. This story was posted on 2007-06-26 11:35:00
