Feedback: An explanation of Strange Goings On over Plum Point To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com: I am originally from Columbia, and keep in touch with whats going on by checking out your magazine weekly. I came across the photo of the two aircraft over the skies of Columbia. Currently I work for the Air Force as a civilian, and I work on the two types of aircraft in the photo. You are correct in the assumption that it is an In-flight refueling mission. The smaller Aircraft on the right is a KC-135 Stratotanker, it is the one off-lodaing the fuel, they have been in service since the 1957. The larger aircraft on the left is a C-17 Globemaster. It is receving the fuel, and they have been in service since 1988. The Globemaster is the newest cargo aircraft in the Air Forces inventory. Why they were over Columbia is hard to say. They could have been doing joint exercises with Fort Knox. Thanks for putting out such a good magazine, it nice to sit back and look at home every now and then. s/Bobby Jones Photo "Strange Goings On over Plum Point" by Pen This story was posted on 2007-06-25 13:31:04
