Obituary: Sandy Tucker, co-founder, Galilean Home

The life of a Casey County woman whose inspirational story was known around the world was cut short Monday, when she lost her battle with cancer.

She was known as "Mom" to over 800 children she and her husband have cared for over the years at the Casey County complex near Dunnville, just 30 miles from Columbia, they developed.

She is now mourned by thousands from whom she had gained wide respect. People of all walks of life, from Congressmen, Kentucky Governors, from leaders in every field, and Christians of all levels of society are saddened by the loss of Sandy Tucker.

Sandy Tucker, 62, South Fork Church Road, Liberty, KY, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY.



She was born November 9, 1944, in Arizona, the daughter of the late Eugene Burda and Mildred Ploaski Burda.

She was a member of Dunnville Christian Church.

She was a co-founder and co-owner with her husband, Jerry Tucker, of Galilean Ministries.

Survivors, besides her husband, include the following:
  • Children: Becky martin, Jessica Stephens, Jeremy Tucker, John Tucker, Jeff Tucker, Sunshine Tucker, Renee' Al-Gassab, Laurie Hemsoth, Rochelle Tucker, Luella Tucker,

    Also James Tucker, Weldon Tucker, Elizabeth Tucker, Rosa Tucker, Ernie Tucker, Milton Tucker, Patty Tucker, Amy Tucker, Alicia Tucker, Zachary Harpin,

    Also, Fredy Caballero, Jean Beaudelaire, Tony Paz, Abdul Samad, Martin Murrillo, Rebekah Tucker, Ena Tucker, Kristi Tucker, Effie Perre, Molly Beachy, Ebony Bright,

    Also, Mara Velica, Candy Velica, Vennie Dorvil, Juan Sanabria, Frankie Sierra, and George Sallee

  • Two brothers: Perry Burda and Pat Burda

  • One sister: Debbie Tucker

  • and 42 grandchildren and three great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by five children: Donald Tucker, Robby Tucker, Ramsey Porter, Tommy Tucker, and Sandy Thermilus.

The funeral service will be at the Galilean Home Gymnasium, Monday, June 25, at 10amET/9amCT, with Rev. Emmett Lanham and Rev. Marc Carr officiating.

Visitation is Saturday, June 23, from 12:00noon ET until 9:00pm ET and Sunday, June 24, from 10:00am ET until 9:00pm ET at the Galilean Home Gymnasium. Burial will be in the Galilean Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Tucker, John Tucker, Jeff Tucker, Zachary Harpin, Tony Paz, Merv Mertin, Kevin Stephens, and Joy Tucker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jean Beaudelaire, Abdul Samad, Fredy Calallero, and Micky Tucker.
