A special thank you to the Adair County Crusade for Children

Mother of wonderful child who has benefited from the the Crusade shares story of her special needs daughter who has been a special blessing to all she's met, and whose life has been helped so much by the Crusade and all the Adair County projects the organization supports here

By Sharon Moss Burton
Mother of Julie Rochelle Burton

I would like to thank everybody that donated and to the people that worked the road blocks to collect money for the Special Needs Children of Adair County. It is a wonderful organization and benefits so many.

As I have said many times Adair County is such a loving and caring County. I am so proud to live here.

Our Special needs daughter, Julie Rochelle, Burton benefited from the Crusade for 16 years while she was in school.

She is 28 now and attends the Adanta Tenco Workshop. She has been there for seven years. They are a group of very good hearted, educated caring adults that work there. Julie loves them all.

We appreciate them so much. We have always been able to keep Julie in the public

She was in the Special Olympics for several years. She went to the International at Notre Dame when she was 8 years old.

She has shown Simmental cattle at various fairs for several years. Of course with the help of her dad, Floyd Burton. Her last year of school, which was 2000, her Dad took her to the prom. I still don't know which one had more fun !!!!

Her dad has always been very helpful and supportive of Julie. He is a Great Dad. She went through the graduation line just like everybody else.

We were so proud of her. Julie is very sweet, outgoing, and friendly person. Speaks to everybody and never sees a stranger. She loves being with people and never forgets your face, once she has met you.

Yes, it is very hard to take care of a special needs child. They each have their own set of problems and disabilities. Julie has to take medication because she has times she is unable to handle her feelings and emotions and it comes out in a bad way and is very hard to calm her down.Sometimes it will go on for hours.

She has overcome so many things

She has overcome so many things the doctors in Louisville told us she would never be able to do. ( She was only 5 months old when she was sick. )

She was never suppose to have been able to talk. She was very slow but can say anything she wants to. Sometimes more than she needs to !!!!

God answered #many many prayers for her and I will always be lieve that is why we have our daughter today. There is a Great Physician called God and He does answer prayer.

Julie kneels by her bed every night and prays for various things and people. I truly believe her prayers are heard.

She has two older brothers and sister-in laws, three nieces and one nephew. They all dearly love her and she does them too. Aunt Sheila Neat is very special to her.

I have a special place in my heart for parents with special needs children because I know how they feel and what they go through every day.

We are so blessed to have our daughter

Every now and then I will see someone that says to me, "I feel so sorry for you and Floyd." My response is "Why ???"

We are so blessed to have our daughter. I do appreciate everyone that has or is helping in any way with special needs citizens. They have feelings and rights just like we do.

Julie is still amazing because just yesterday we got in our pool for the first time this season and she is almost swimming. I knew last summer she was beginning to learn.

I don't know what led me to write this article. Maybe it is meant to help someone else. In closing here is a poem that I have had for a long time and I would like to share it with you.

PARENTS ARE SPECIAL TOO.

God must consider you special
to give you a Special Child.
He knew you would love this child always,
and not for just awhile

He knew you would always be there,
for the child He gave you.
And remember the child is special,
in everything they say and do.

So many do not understand,
the mentally handicapped.
They live in their own dream world
and it is we who must adapt.

It is a world filled with Peace,
Hope and lots of love.
It is a world that only resembles,
Our Great Heaven above.

All children are very special,
and their parents are too.
But it is the two together,
that make their Love so true.
Thanks to all the wonderful people associated with the Adair County Crusade for children, and thanks for letting me share the story of our wonder daughter Julie, a genuine blessing in our lives and the lives of so many others!
