Bill Holmes new Director of International Education at CU By Linda Waggener, assistant director of university communications Bill Holmes has been employed as the new director of international education at Campbellsville University, according to an announcement by Dr. Michael V. Carter, president. Holmes comes to CU from Murray State University where he has been the coordinator for the Kentucky Institute for International Studies. Holmes received his bachelor of arts degree from Miami University in Ohio where he majored in European history and minored in political science. As an undergraduate, he studied abroad in Budapest, Hungary. He received his master of arts degree in international studies from the University of Wyoming. His graduate fieldwork, conducted in both Hungary and Romania, focused on the history of Romanian nationalism and its affect on minorities within Transylvania. Holmes' academic interests include East European cultural anthropology, nationalism and Hungarian history and literature. He continues to study the Hungarian and Ukrainian languages. He is experienced as an Americorps volunteer, a Peace Corps Volunteer and he will be taking on the development of service-learning projects for CU. Holmes said he believes in the Christian ethic of service to others. "The desire to serve has led me into many volunteer situations in life," he said, "and has led me here in the development of service-learning projects for the CU faculty and students."? Holmes and his wife, Erin, will be moving to Campbellsville and he will begin his appointment as the director on July 2.
