Stephanie Franklin 1 of 4 to receive recent art scholarships at CU Linda J. Cundiff, professor of art at Campbellsville University and chairperson of the CU art department, says recipients came from a talented group of students this year By Joan C. McKinney, director of university communications Four students, including Stephanie Franklin, daughter of Columbia resident Johnnie Franklin, received art scholarships and performance grants worth $12,000 in a recent competitive art scholarship competition at Campbellsville University. The annual Competitive Art Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who compete for scholarship funds. Those students not chosen for the art scholarships may be awarded performance grants. Linda J. Cundiff, professor and chair of the department of art, said there were a talented group of students competing for the scholarship funds and performance grants. Two students, including one from Campbellsville, KY, whose father is from Columbia. KY: and one from Germany, were awarded performance grants in art. Two students, from Fordsville, KY, and Versailles, Ky., received the Competitive Art Scholarship worth $1,500 per student, per year for four years. The four awards are as follows: Stephanie Franklin, 116 Meader St., Campbellsville, KY, was awarded a $1,500 performance grant. She is the daughter of Johnny Franklin, a painter, of Columbia, KY, and her mother, Julie Franklin of Campbellsville. She has a goal of teaching art in a foreign country as well as becoming a midwife. Andrew Baker, 3613 Cabinhill Lane, Versailles, KY, was awarded the art scholarship. He is the son of the Rev. Gary Baker, a United Methodist minister, and his wife, Lynnette, a teacher. Baker wants to complete a major in art and math and perhaps go into architecture study. Michael Jarrod Aull, 501 Basham Road, Fordsville, KY, also received the art scholarship. He is the son of Don Basham, employed by Domtar Paper Co., and his wife, Kimberly. Aull is interested in being a member of the Campbellsville University Wrestling Team and wants to perhaps teach art. Bonnie Joy Boulware received a performance grant in the amount of $1,400. She is the daughter of James and Dianne Boulware, who are serving as missionaries in Germany, and who are formerly of Radcliff, KY. She wants to teach P-12 art education and use those skills in a missionary situation. The students are incoming freshmen at CU and are art majors. They must have an academic standing equivalent to or higher than a 3.0 grade point average (B average) and maintain that average in college work at Campbellsville University when chosen for this scholarship.
