A 6pm. curtain on Wednesday May 30, 2007 made some of the local youth very anxious and not to mention nervous! The performance that came to be known as The Truth Behind Oz went off without a hitch with some very prepared youngsters starring. Preparing since the fall semester the youth practiced twice a week after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30.

After practicing for months the final product of their time and energy was ready. This group of 4, 5, and 6 graders all came together to put on quite a show for everyone who came out to support them. Getting costumes together, rehearsing their lines with one another, making sure they knew their places, and where to enter from was all in order for the premier and only performance on May 31, 2007.

Cast Members were as follows: Shauna Akin as Newscaster 2, Taylor Burton as Glenda, Meagan Coomer as the Scarecrow, Hailey England as a Field Reporter, Jason Thrasher as a Fiddler, Mackenzie Martin as Professor Marvel, Sara Davis as the Wicked Witch of the West, Brittany Martinez as the Tin Man, Sarah Howard as a Fiddler, Abby Walker as the Lion, Ellen Hodge as Lullaby League, Dustin Morgan as the Wizard of Oz, and Rebekah York as Dorothy.

Some cast members showed their acting talent by playing dual roles in this production: Savannah Tweedy as Uncle Henry and a Munchkin, Jodessi Scholl as Mrs. Gulch and a Tough Kid, Alisha Stotts as Newscaster 1 and the Mayor, Julia Wallace as a Munchkin and Fiddler 2 and a Leader, and Kristina Smith as Auntie Em and Tot.

The consensus of the night was this was a well put together play and extremely deserving of two thumbs up from all who attended. A special Thanks to the High School students who made this production possible for all of their time and effort Alesha Compton, Brittany Brockman, Katie Royse, Peyton Barnes, and Sarah Martin.

This program was a part of the S.A.F.A.R.I. after school program held during the school year. Grants from the following organizations held to fund the after school programs: Adair County 4-H Council, National 4-H Council, The JC Penney Afterschool Fund, Adair County Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy, and the Kentucky 4-H Foundation. The S.A.F.A.R.I. afterschool program is a collaborative partnership by the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service, Adair County 4-H Council, National 4-H Council, The JC Penney Afterschool Fund, Adair County Family Resource Youth Service Center, Adair County School District, Extended School Service, Adair County Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy, and the Lake Cumberland District Health Department.
