Huge crowds at visitation for Billy Phillips

Visitation at Trinity United Methodist Church for Billy Phllips yesterday afternoon, Thursday, June 7, 2007, was extremely heavy, starting with a queue of over 100 people at 3:00pm and continuing through 9pm. The outpouring of support for the family has been tremendous.

So far, those paying respect have well exceeded 1,000 people, from an estimate of the guest register and could go beyond 1,500 as time for the funeral approaches.. Visitation was high again this morning, as mourners passed by the open casket starting a little after dawn. Visitation will continue until the funeral, which will be at the church at 11:00am, today, Friday, June 8, 2007.

Billy Phillips was as popular painting contractor who died in Lexington at the UK Medical Center on Tuesday, June 5, after being flown there as a result of injuries sustained at the Adair County Regional Jail on June 1, 2007.

Flowers and tributes completely surround the large Trinity sanctuary. Pictures from his life are placed around the perimeter. A six-minute, large-screen video greets mourners, and members of his large--in better times, lively--family of 12 siblings have been present to a larger or smaller extent, throughout the observance.

"I wanted him to have the best," his wife, Jelaine Phillips said.
