Dylan Caliborne, Jamison Roberts qualify for state TIP program Two ACMS students recognized by Duke University's TIP, or Talent Identification Program By Charlene Bell Congratulations go to Dylan Claiborne and Jamison Roberts. These two Adair County Middle School students qualified for state recognition in the 2006-2007 Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search. The Duke University Talent Identification Program, also known as Duke TIP, was founded in 1980 and is dedicated to the cultivation and education of talented youth. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented 7th graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. These candidates are invited to complete either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT Assessment college entrance examination. Duke TIP then provides the participants with comparative information concerning their academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities. To earn state recognition, a student has to score at or above the national average on at least one part of the SAT or the ACT. Dylan earned this recognition with his ACT Reading score; while Jamison earned this honor with his ACT Science score. A student qualifying for state recognition is in the top 25% of the Talent Search pool. A state recognition ceremony was held on Friday, May 25, 2007, at the E.A. Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Each honoree received a medallion embossed with the Duke TIP logo. Dylan is the son of Kevin and Shamarie Claiborne. Jamison is the son of James and Marsha Roberts. This story was posted on 2007-06-05 02:44:43
