Feedback: John McCoy writes from Oregon

Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Thank you so much for publishing the links Joe Hare furnished for Memorial Day. It is nice to be able to share our experiences from Vietnam with everyone.

I had the very distinct pleasure of serving with Sgt. Hare in Vietnam. He was an experienced soldier when I arrived, and due to his knowledge, even our platoon leader, Lt. Bracey, would seek Joe's counsel before going on patrol, or during patrol to discern what move to make next.

By the time Joe rotated home six months later, I had learned enough from him to keep myself and my men alive for the duration of my tour. In talking to other vets I served with over the years, Joe's name came up every time.

All of us are proud to know him and to have served with him.

What great guy he is. I am glad to see that the years have not changed his personality at all!

By the way, I may live in Oregon, but my mother's people are all from Kentucky, not too far from you all - Pulaski County. I still have second cousins in that part of Kentucky. I hope to make it back there some day and meet you folks in Adair County.

Best Wishes,

John McCoy
Springfield, Oregon
