ACHS tech students place FIRST in state competition

Latasha Padgett, Kaci Slaven receive First Place in Help Desk Service event; Kyle Lyle recognized. Matt Compton earns spot in finals of gaming competition and finishes in top ten.

On Thursday, May 10th, more than 2,500 students of all ages traveled to Lexington to compete at the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) State Championship.

Two ACHS sophomores, Latasha Padgett and Kaci Slaven, competed in the Help Desk Service event and received First Place.

The event involved the team of two students describing the ACHS student-operated Help Desk before a panel of judges and then answering the judges questions. The ACHS Help Desk provides technical support, in cooperation with district technology personnel, to all five of the Adair County Schools. The Help Desk program was established last year and has been a tremendous success.

Chad Parnell, ACHS Information Technology teacher and Help Desk coordinator, said, I am extremely proud of these two young ladiesthey answered many tough questions and competed against other, more established help desk programs such as Barren County and Paul Lawrence Dunbar.

Also recognized at the State Championship was ACHS Junior Kyle Loy. Kyle was selected two years ago as a Junior Engineer and is now a Senior Engineer in Kentucky STLP. As an engineer, he is responsible for providing technical support at the STLP state competition and the yearly Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference.

Another ACHS student also did well at the State Championship. Matt Compton, an ACHS Sophomore, competed in the Gaming competition where he earned a spot in the finals. Matt finished as one of the top ten Gaming competitors in Kentucky STLP.

Congratulations to these outstanding students for their hard word and dedication! - Thanks to Phyllis Curry, Adair County Instructional Supervisor for this article
