The Columbia-Adair County Airport Board (CACAB) members met yesterday, Tuesday evening, May 15, 2007, and said over $400,000 in runway repaving is expected to begin within a couple of weeks at the Columbia-Adair County Airport.

The $415,106 contract, proposed by Gaddie-Shamrock of Columbia, is funded through a triple partnership between the Kentucky Department of Aviation and the CACAB -- which includes the City of Columbia and the County of Adair.

Five of the six board members were present. They were Dana Rogers, John Ford, John Rarey, Buddy Sewell, and Mike Mitchum. Member Doug Campbell did not attend the meeting.

"We should receive the go-ahead notification on the runway paving in two weeks," CACAB member John Ford said at the meeting. The cost of the repaving contract pays for completion a two-inch overlay of asphalt to the runway, as well as repairs to any cracks in the existing pavement. Also at the meeting, CACAB members called for a special session for May 29 to meet and discuss the details of the design specifications for a new hangar that will house six airplanes.

CACAB members say they plan to advertise for bid proposals for the construction of the hangars after they discuss more details May 29.

"We need to come up with something we can afford to build," Ford said. "Let's do it." The new hangar is expected to be located on the east side of the automotive parking lot -- which is adjacent to the existing hangar. CACAB members say the Airport needs a new hangar, and they are hoping to get state funding for some of the construction costs as well.CACAB members also await the arrival and installation of a $3800 fuel pump this week to replace the current pump that does not correctly tabulate. "It has got to be in by May 19.

We're not only losing gas sales, but also the people who come here to visit." Ford said. Currently, the old pump is shut off and no fuel can bought until the newer one arrives. Members hope to have the pump installed by this weekend for their Fly-In Open House event scheduled for Saturday, May 19.
The Fly-In is expected to bring in several types of interesting aircraft from all around Kentucky. Airplane rides at the event will be offered for $20, and a cookout is scheduled from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The event will be held from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
