3 Adair teachers receive CU Excellence in Teaching awards

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. 150 educators from across Kentucky received awards from Campbellsville University in partnership with Lexington's CBS-affiliate WKYT-TV at the 21st annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Program Saturday, May 12, 2007, in the Winters Dining Hall in the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex.



CU vice president for academic affairs Frank D Cheatham addressed the teachers and guests, from public and private school systems from 55 Kentucky school districts.

"Thank you so much for being with us on this special occasion," Cheatham said, "your school has chosen you and Campbellsville University is proud to play a part in honoring you for all that you do for excellence in your work."

Dr. Brenda Priddy, dean of the School of Education, gave the invocation and read the names of each award winner.

The purpose of the Excellence in Teaching Awards Program is to recognize the quality of teaching and learning taking place in the school systems throughout Kentucky. The program was begun in 1987 by Campbellsville University with assistance from Earl Aaron and the Ward, Cundiff and Aaron Memorial Fund at the university.

Through the awards program, Campbellsville University presents plaques to teachers in each grade level (elementary [P-5], middle [6-8] and high school [9-12]) as selected by their school district. Since the program's inception in 1987, 2,086 teachers have been honored by their colleagues.

The Excellence in Teaching Award recipients include the following with their superintendent listed first:

Darrell Treece, superintendent; JoAnn Montgomery, Adair County Elementary; Jeanette Aaron, Adair Youth Development Center and 1980 Campbellsville University alumna; and Brent Campbell, Adair County High School.

JoAnn Montgomery, of Columbia KY, is married to Robert Montgomery, and has a son, Michael. She is the daughter of Albert and Dimple Grider, also of Columbia. She received her bachelor's degree in 1985 from Lindsey Wilson College and her master's degree and Rank 1 in 1988 from Western Kentucky University. She worked at Sparksville Grade center from 1985 2006 as LD Resource Teacher for grades K-8 and has been employed at Adair County Elementary School as and LD Resource Teacher for grades K-6 since 2006. She is a member of Adair County Education Association.

Jeanette Aaron, of Glensfork, KY, is married to Bill Aaron, and has three children, Tony, Angie, and Amy. She is the daughter of Christine Antle and the late William Antle of Jamestown, Ky. She received her associate's of arts degree in business and education in 1962 from Lindsey Wilson College, her bachelor's of science in business and education in 1980 from Campbellsville University, and her fifth year in education in 1983 from Western Kentucky University. She worked at John Adair Elementary School from 1980 to 1987, at Adair County High School from 1988 to 2000 and has been employed at Adair Youth Development Center since 2001. She is a twenty-six year member of Kentucky Education Association, and was a member of Kentucky Business Education Association from 1988 to 2000.

Brent Campbell, of Columbia, KY, is married to Shannon Campbell, and has a daughter, Kaylee. He is the son of Steve and Rita Campbell, also of Columbia. He received his bachelor's degree in secondary mathematics in 1996 and his master's in middle grades math in 2000 from Western Kentucky University, and he earned his Rank 1 in instructional leadership in 2006 from Eastern Kentucky University. He worked at Sparksville Grade Center from 1996 to 1997 and at Knifley Grade Center from 1997 to 1998. He has been employed at Adair County High School since 1998, teaching math for grades 9-12. He is a member of Kentucky Education Association and National Education Association both for ten years, National Council of Teacher of Mathematics for four years, and Kentucky Association of School Councils for two years.
Campbellsville University, now celebrating her Centennial year, is a private, comprehensive institution located in South Central Kentucky. Founded in 1906, Campbellsville University is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention and has an enrollment of 2,310 students who represent 100 Kentucky counties, 32 states and 28 foreign nations. Listed in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" 14 consecutive years as one of the leading Southern master's colleges and universities, Campbellsville University is located 82 miles southwest of Lexington, KY., and 80 miles southeast of Louisville, KY. Dr. Michael V. Carter is in his eighth year as president.
