ACHS Academic Team members going to Internationals! Major achievement is first ever for school; Future Solving Team joins Bethany Coffey as Adair's second entry this year at the event in finish of incredible year of successes for Academic Team The Adair County High School Future Problem Solving Team is headed for international competition. The Kentucky Association of Academic Competition contacted ACHS of the decision to include this unit of the Adair County Academic Team in the event on Thursday, May 3, 2007. Team members Matthew Downen, Megan White, Katie LaVictoire, and Cody Gabbert will represent ACHS as a competing unit as well. The conference is the ultimate in Future Problem Solving competition, a very rare achievement for any school. This is Adair County's first year of qualifying for the event. The Adair County High School Academic Team's Future Problem Solving Team advancement to the CSU competition accompanies Bethany Coffey as Adair County's 2nd qualification for the event. As reported earlier this year, Bethany advanced after winning the state championship in the Individual Scenario Writing division. The team had been awaiting a processed inquiry as to their acceptance since State Governor's Cup competition in March. In the March competition, the Adair County High School Future Problem Solving team finished in a three-way unbreakable tie with two other schools for the state title. Following a procedure known as "judges' preference," the three-way tie for the state championship ended with Adair County being left on the short end of the selection process for Internationals. As U.S. state-by-state competitions and overseas competitions came to a close this past week, it was determined after further assessment of these results that Adair County would receive the right to advance as a third representative team from Kentucky. The team won the right to advance after its statistical ties with Madisonville North Hopkins and Johnson County proved sufficient, as both schools carry the honor of being named the 2006 and 2005 International Champions respectively. The International Conference will take place at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado from May 31-June 3. The competition will feature the best teams and individual competitors from four continents, as well as professional "futurists" from across the globe. This story was posted on 2007-05-04 15:54:01
