LWC community participates in National Day of Prayer By Emily Harlan, LWC staff writer COLUBIA, KY Since 9am CT Thursday morning, May 3, 2007 Lindsey Wilson College students, faculty and staff have entered the John B. Begley Chapel to participate in National Day of Prayer. The chapel is always open for prayer, but Thursdays schedule includes a 12-hour come and go prayer vigil, communion hour and evening worship service. "The chapel is open to everyone year-round," said Assistant Chaplin John Kalz. "Today, especially, it is important for people of all majors and persuasions to pray for our nation."The situation at Virginia Tech highlights the need for prayer on a college campus. Everyone can be open to Gods grace and presence." This is the first year Lindsey Wilson has joined other organizations in National Day of Prayer, held annually the first Thursday of May. The National Day of Prayer Task Force created the day in 1951 to encourage Americans to pray for church, education, family, government and media. Ashley Lorenzen is a Christian ministries freshman from Greenville, KY. She organized the evening worship service. "When people on campus prays, it brings an atmosphere of humility and authenticity," Lorenzen said. "Prayer works. Prayer is the only way revival starts." Lorenzen said she hopes Lindsey Wilson's day of prayer grows into a more common event on campus. "Theres a calling to hold (prayer vigils) more often. National Day of Prayer is the root of more frequent prayer vigils." Communication senior Ramie Hutchison from Frankfort, KY, is playing guitar during Thursday nights worship service. Hutchison, who plays for his church youth group and Lindsey Wilsons creative ministries class, said he enjoys the chance to help others worship. "Playing music is a chance to help people worship God," Hutchison said. "The prayer vigil has a big impact. We hope it helps anybody struggling or in pain."
