CULTURE & ENLIGHTENMENT: A poem, Burton Ridge Edition

A historical poem has been written under the pen name "Mayor of Burton Ridge," entitled News, News Flash! Burton Ridge Edition. It is the ColumbiaMagazine.com poem of the day. "A good one," as Garrison Keillor says on Radio Purdy, WDCL-FM at the Nar's, Burton Ridge, Adair County, KY ( Misidentified by the ignorant as "Somerset, KY.")

News, News Flash!
Burton Ridge Edition

Ten miles east of Columbia,
Near the community of Ella,
Neighbors hustled about.
Was that a shout?

Naw, just a whimper.
Maybe a dog with distemper.
Nothing up a tree.
What could it be?

Hey, whats that flaying in the air?
I dont know,
But theyre a pair.
New farming method no doubt,
Then the wailing shout.

As we went to see,

It was easy to tell.
A Neighbor Man, while inspecting his well
Was hung all way to his tail.
Hog lard is what it took.
We pulled, and he shook.

Signed/"Mayor of Burton Ridge"
