It is eerily quiet in downtown Columbia right now.

Downtown Columbia was evacuated at around 10:30am this morning, Monday, April 30, 2007 because of a bomb threat at the Adair County Court House. All offices and businesses on the Square were cleared by authorities. City Hall was voluntarily evacuated. Barricades have been set up at entrances at Burkesville and Fortune, at Monroe Street on Greensburg ST, Reed & Merchant on Campbellsville, and at Reed ST on Jamestown ST.

State Police, Columbia Police, the State Fire Marshal and other officials are checking out the bomb threat. Mayor Pat Bell is out of town today. A city official said that the thinking is that the threat is a hoax, but that no chances are being taken.
