Kids Outdoor Day is Saturday, June 2, at GRL State Park

Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, sent this story to us about Kids Outdoor Day on Green River Lake, sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation

By Shawn Canada

The organizers and volunteers of Kids Outdoor Day would like to extend the opportunity to the local and national business community to become a sponsor of Kids Outdoor Day.

Kids Outdoor Day program held annually on the first Saturday of June at Green River Lake State Park and Tim Hortons Camp Kentahten.

Kids Outdoor Day is a fun filled day of outdoor activities for children of all ages to participate in, such as Archery, Boating, Fishing, Shooting Sports, Game Calling, Outdoor Education and much more.

For many of the children it is their first opportunity to participate in these types of activities. It is our goal to introduce them to the great outdoors and hopefully introduce them to a family sport that they can continue to participate in together throughout their youth and into adulthood.

This past year we hosted over 750 youth; with parents and guest we estimate total attendance at over 1500. In the past the first 500 children received a complimentary tee shirt & goodie bag, we hope to increase this number to cover all of the children in attendance.

This year we are expecting another huge turnout, so we must increase our fundraising efforts to make the day enjoyable for all. Throughout the day we will be giving away numerous door prizes to the children in attendance and at the days end we will have our Grand Prize drawings.

All of this is made free of charge to the children and their parents; this is accomplished by fund raisers and donations from local and national businesses.
