An Adair County woman freed herself and called 911 at the Adair County Regional Jail in Columbia, KY, after being bound by two men she caught in the act of burglarizing her home on Monday, March 26, 2007, just past noon.

The burglars took the woman into the residence, tied her up at gunpoint, and demanded money, and then completed the burglary.

The two men, whose MO suggests they may have been involved in a number of other break-ins in Adair County, were apparently spooked by the appearance of the owner when she arrived home during the brazen daylight break-in. They were armed with handguns, police say.

The KSP became involved at approximately 12:38pm, Monday, March 26, 2007, Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, received a call of an armed robbery at a residence located on KY 80 a few miles east of Columbia in Adair County, KY.

The victim had freed herself and called 911 at the Adair County Regional Jail. Adair County Sheriff Ralph Curry and Deputy Charles Greer responded from the Adair County Sheriff's Office. Detective George Atwood and Trooper Nathan Carey responded from Kentucky State Police Post 15.

The woman was left unharmed. "She's okay," a state police spokesman said.

The burglars did not get a large amount of cash, according to the KSP, and did not take all the valuables they had piled in the floor.

Victim did not see car

The KSP reports that the victim could not give a description of the get-away car. The woman did not see the car, and the theory is that the car had been parked in the westbound shoulder of the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway, that the men walked to the home, and fled back to the car on the LBN to make their escape.

Police are hoping that anyone who may have information about the car or any other information about the incident will call Detective Atwood or Trooper Carey at 270-384-4796, or the Adair County Sheriff's office at 270-384-2776, to help them in their continuing investigations.Story information courtesy Dwaine Barnett, Kentucky State Police Post 15, 1118 Jamestown ST, (at Exit 49, Louie B.
