Obituary: Bertha M. Willis, 96, member, Columbia Baptist

Mrs. Willis was the head of a large, prominent Adair County family

Bertha Marie Willis, 96, a resident of Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville, KY, formerly of Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, March 12, 2007 at 5:55pm, at Sunrise Manor.

The funeral service will be Friday, March 16, 2007, at 11:00am CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Randy Johnson the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.



She was born April 29, 1910, the daughter of the late Clarence Gillium and Mary Elizabeth Yates Breeding.

She was the widow of Evan Willis, who preceded her in death May 6, 1983. She was also preceded in death by one son & daughter-in-law Glenn Willis in 2006 and his wife Connie Willis in 2005, and by one great granddaughter.

She is survived by the following:
  • Two sons: Bobbie Willis and his wife Nancy of Columbia, KY, and Danny Willis, Louisville, KY

  • Two daughters: Reba Stewart and her late husband, Charles, of Louisville, KY, and Elizabeth Grubbs and her husband Loren of Hodgenville, KY

  • One sister: Myrtle Grimsley, Columbia, KY

  • Sixteen grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
Bertha Willis was a member of Columbia Baptist Church. She was retired from Stewart's Dry Goods in Louisville, KY, and was a homemaker.

Visitation after 3:00pm CT Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
