G.R.A.W.L. Meeting Monthly meeting report, Mar., Feb., 2007

By Shantilla F. Rexroat, DVM. President, G.R.A.W.L.

The Green River Animal Welfare League Met on March 6th, 2007. (We also met in February, but I did not have an opportunity to write this article last month.)Bingo Fund Raiser goes incredibly well

Our Fund Raiser with Bingo in February went incredibly well.We were able to purchase a large, insulated storage building for the Animal Shelter. Since the shelter is continuously operating at capacity, the extra room is very valuable to them.

We are continuing this month with several fund raising ideas. Look forG.R.A.W.L. in the near future to be having several fund raisers within the community. 100% of the funds will be used toward the animal shelter's needs and some educational programs in the schools. Jeff and his staff will be attending Camp Casey on March 22nd,2007.

Adoption rates continue above national average

The animal shelter continues to take in hundreds of animals andthe adoption ratescontinue to be above the national average. Jeff, his staff and volunteers continue to work to place puppies anddogswith rescue groups in addition to traditional adoptions. Jeff has a wonderful staff who work hard daily to see to all of these dogs' and cats' basic needs.

Special thanks to staff Jeff has built at G.R.A.S.

This jobis not an easy one mentally or physically. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledgeApril Janes, Michelle Foster, Heather Evans, Garrett Luttrell, and Allison Frost for all of their hard work and dedication. They are some of the most important caregivers in our community.Caring for the abandoned and unwanted on a daily basis. Jeff has built a great staff of very caring individuals who take their jobs very seriously.

$3,000 soon available to assist with spays and neuters of G.R.A.S. animals

We received great news this month. We recieved a grant that we applied for last year. The animal shelterwill be recieving $3000.00 to assist with spays and neuters of animals adopted from the animal shelter. (Please do not call Jeff with questions about this grant.)The funds are not currently available. Some paperwork is still necessary, but soon we will be able to assist with approximately 75 spaysor neuters of animals as they are adopted from the animal shelter. As soon as funding is available it will be dispursed as dogs and cats are adopted. We will follow up next month with more details.

Until next month: Don't Litter--Spay or Neuter.
