Saturday cycle race first USA Cycling event in Columbia

The third race of the 2007 Kentuckiana Spring Training Series comes to Columbia, KY March 17, 2007. Kentuckiana Spring Training Series starts its 27th year of existence in 2007 as one of the most well known annual cycling events in the Midwest. The series started the first weekend in March 2007.

This is the first time the USA Cycling series has come to Columbia, KY. Lindsey Wilson College and its cycling team are well known nationally in the cycling community and the opportunity to have a series race in the hometown of the college was a welcome addition.



KSTS will attract riders from IN, KY, OH, MI, WI, TN, IL and WVA who will brave the early spring weather to get a start on their competitive cycling season.

The Kentuckiana Spring Training Series consists of seven (7) events that take place in various cities around Kentucky and Indiana and is arguably one of the most important early race series for many of the teams from the states that are represented in the series.

In 2006, KSTS was the starting point for six US National Championship jerseys and one medal at the Masters World Championships. Over the 27 years, KSTS has begun the season for 30 U.S. National Championship jerseys and two World Championship medals.

Trade teams from Texas Roadhouse, Papa Johns Pizza, Barbasol Shaving Cream, Priorty Health, Bolla Wines, Nuvo-Bacardi are expected to attend. Lindsey Wilson College team rider Jean Schneider currently is Womens 4th overall in the series.
Racing starts at 12:00 noon at Purdy Separate Baptist Church, KY 206, Columbia, KY. The 25-mile race course begins and ends at Purdy and goes through Christine, Absher, Knifley, Neatsville, Eunice, and Ella.

Scenes like this peloton in the Kentuckiana Spring Training Series Race 2, the Henryville (IN) Classic Road Race, will be seen on the race course for the Green River Road Race, which starts and ends at Purdy Separate Baptist Church on KY 206 this Saturday. Cycle racing teams from eight states are expected. Besides the community of Purdy, the 25-mile race course runs through Christine, Absher, Knifley, Neatsville, Eunice and Ella. Race start time is noon, Saturday, March 17, 2007.
