Northup will appear at KHIPP candidate forum Five more candidates have agreed to appear By Joan C. McKinney, director of university communications CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. The third in a series of gubernatorial candidate forums at Campbellsville University will feature the Hon. Anne Northup, former five-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives and former Kentucky House of Representatives member, at 4pm ET, Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at The Gheens Recital Hall in the Gosser Fine Arts Center. The sessions are sponsored by CU's Kentucky Heartland Institute for Public Policy (KHIPP) and Team Taylor County. John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations at CU and executive assistant to the president who is the founder of KHIPP, said all of the major candidates have been asked to participate in the forums. The event, as well as all that will follow, are open to the public. Chowning said each of the candidates will also be featured on his TV-4 television show, "Dialogue on Public Issues," which is shown on Monday and Wednesdays at 1:30pm ET, Mondays at 6:30pm ET and Wednesdays at pm ET. The Northup interview will be aired on Comcast Cable 10 on Monday, March 26, 2007, at 1:30pm ET, and 6:30pm ET, and on Wednesday, March 28 at 1:30pm ET, and 7 pm ET "We at Campbellsville University and at Team Taylor County are honored to be able to host these gubernatorial forums," said Chowning. "Our goal is to allow the public to listen to the major candidates, hear their goals and platforms, and then make educated judgments on who to vote for in May. We also deeply appreciate the financial support of our local banks who are helping underwrite the costs of the series of candidate forums." Chowning said that five other candidates have already committed to dates over the next several weeks. "We invite everyone to come hear these candidates and to watch the show on our TV-4," said Chowning. Ann Northup Born in 1948, Anne Meagher Northup is the second oldest of James and Floy Meagher's 11 children. She became interested in public policy and politics while following in her father's footsteps as he walked door-to-door as a Republican precinct captain in their Louisville, KY. neighborhood. She earned a bachelor's degree in economics and business from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind. During her early career years, she taught mathematics and worked at Ford Motor Company. She served in the Kentucky General Assembly, where she served as a representative for Kentucky's 32nd District from 1987 to 1996. During her tenure, she focused on issues such as transportation, education and the budget. She was named co-chair, in 2000, of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, which is a bipartisan, bicameral caucus focused on policies that encourage adoption to provide more children with the opportunity to live in stable homes. In April 2002, Northup was inducted to the Jefferson County Office for Women Hall of Fame for her leadership as the first woman to represent the Third District of Kentucky in the United States Congress. In May 2002, she was named to the Prescription Drug Action Team to work to establish a Medicare prescription drug benefit. Northup introduced the first legislation that made it illegal to sell cigarettes to children under the age of 18. For her efforts to fight against teen smoking, she earned national recognition and was featured in "Newsweek" magazine in 1993. Northup and her husband, Robert Wood Woody Northup, a small businessman, are the parents of six children, two of whom are adopted. She is the sister of Mary T.
