Lindsey Wilson College's cycling team will host two races this spring that are open to the public.

The Lindsey Wilson cycling team will host a road race on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Green River State Park, and then mountain races on Saturday, April 7, at Green River State Park and on Sunday, April 8, at the course behind Columbia Pharmacy, off Bomar Heights.

Cycling coach Jeni Huff said the races are a great way to get involved with cycling whether you are a newcomer to the sport or a seasoned veteran.

"People can participate in the races if they choose to, or just come out and watch the cyclists," Huff said. "So far, we have more than 80 riders participating in the races, so it'll be a lot of fun for everyone to see what members of the public and Lindsey Wilsons cycling team have to offer. Both races are great opportunities for people to get involved in cycling."

Over the last 10 years, the cycling program has been one of Lindsey Wilson's success stories. Huff, who is a 2002 alumna of the college, won Lindsey Wilson's first cycling individual championship and she was also named National Collegiate Cycling Association All-American in 1997.

Since then, Lindsey Wilsons cycling program has earned a multitude of individual and team honors, including 2000 and 2001 CycloCross national championships. More recently, the program earned a pair of fifth-place finishes at the NCCA mountain bike competition, one individual NCCA championship and a third-place finish in the NCCA CycloCross competition.

"Everyone on the team has proven themselves, and weve been able to get a lot of other members from around the United States and the world to join the team because of the success weve had," Huff said. "It's amazing to see that people from all over the world want to come to Adair County and ride their bikes. The training around here is some of the best of the country."
